Portman jako Nina, niesamowicie utalentowana, lecz groźnie niestabilna psychicznie balerina u progu sławy. Doprowadzona do granic wytrzymałości psychicznej i fizycznej przez dyrektora artystycznego (Vincent Cassel) i świadomość zagrożenia, które stanowi jej rywalka (Mila Kunis), Nina zatraca granice pomiędzy fikcją, a rzeczywistością. Wraz z rosnącą presją, obsesje Niny wymykają się spod kontroli przenosząc ją w świat koszmarnych wizji, które zagrażają nie tylko jej psychice, lecz także jej życiu.
Portman pod koniec filmu tworzy przerażającą rolę, jej gra kontrastami, namiętność i oziębłość, halucynacje, to wszystko sprawia, że wsiąkam w film, tak, że zapominam o bożym świecie. W całym obrazie jest tyle pięknych scen, że możnaby nimi obdzielić pół tuzina polskich „arcydzieł". Końcówka jest całkiem niezła i gdyby jeszcze trochę rozbudować fabułę wyszedłby majstersztyk. Tak mamy bardzo dobry film, z troszkę pretensjonalnym zakończeniem. Mimo to warto. Polecam.

Rachel Weisz miała zagrać postać Niny, w którą ostatecznie wcieliła się Natalie Portman.
Do roli Lily kandydowały Eva Green, Rachel McAdams, Emily Blunt i Blake Lively. Ostatecznie zagrała ją Mila Kunis.

Parker Posey była bardzo poważnie brana pod uwagę do zagrania roli Beth Macintyre, lecz Darren Aronofsky zdecydował się zaangażować Winonę Ryder.
Mila Kunis specjalnie do roli w filmie zrzuciła 10 kg.
Zdjęcia do filmu zrealizowano w Nowym Jorku i Purchase (Nowy Jork, USA).
